What/who inspired the work?
I was inspired by a GIF animation created by Flavio de Morais, a Brazilian artist based in Barcelona. His sculptures are like mobile toys that the viewer can touch and move. In order for his social media viewers to understand the movement of the parts of his works, Morais created GIF animations.
What do you hope its viewers will feel/think?
On one hand, I hope that viewers will reflect upon the narrative that has developed within the History of Art during the 20th century regarding artist-created museums. On the other hand, I hope that they will consider how painting can give rise to derivative digital formats that expand upon its traditional boundaries.
Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style?
From a conceptual perspective, I have chosen the digital medium for this section because it is the principal element that binds the entirety of the Davis Museum together. Additionally, I have chosen the digital medium for this section as it is easy to produce, cost-effective, rapidly shareable, and visually impactful. As for the style, I have chosen to derive certain paintings from the Paintings Section of the Davis Museum in Barcelona and represent them in a different format.
